Trinity Softball Finishes SCAC Weekend Sweep at Hendrix
Conway, Ark. – The Trinity Tigers softball team swept a four-game SCAC series with the Hendrix Warriors, after taking a doubleheader Sunday at Warrior Field.
Trinity (14-18, 7-5 SCAC) won the opening game 14-5, and the second 4-1. The Tigers are in sole possession of third place in the SCAC West Division. Hendrix dropped to 14-16 and 3-9 SCAC.
The Tigers held a slim 5-4 lead through four innings of the first game, when Trinity scored three runs, on five hits and one error, in the fifth inning. The big inning for the Tigers was the seventh, when they produced six runs, on five hits, and three Hendrix errors. Trinity collected 20 hits in the game.
Karen MacPherson batted 4-5 with three RBI, and scored two runs. MacPherson, Trinity’s all-time stolen base leader, stole two bases in the game. Caitlin Richards hit 4-5 with two RBI, and three runs. Lindsay Weyand, who cracked two doubles, went 3-4, with one run. Becca Rush batted 3-5, with an RBI, and two runs.
Sydney Friday was the starting pitcher, and hurled four innings. Friday (6-7) allowed three earned runs, seven hits, no walks, and fanned four batters. Brittany Losey entered in the fifth inning and picked up her first save of the season. Losey yielded one earned run, one hit, two walks, and struck out four players in three innings of work.
Trinity scored a run in the third inning of the second game, and added two more runs in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
Rachel Garrett hit 2-4 with two RBI, and scored a run. Richards, who cracked a double, batted 2-4 with an RBI. MacPherson stole another base and upped her season total to 23.
Helen Thompson (1-1) pitched 6 1/3 innings and captured the win. Thompson allowed one earned run, nine hits, and no walks. Sarah Rabaey hurled the final 2/3 of an inning and picked up her first save. Rabaey allowed one walk.
Trinity wraps up its regular-season home schedule with a four-game SCAC series against Southwestern next Saturday and Sunday.
