Softball Drops Two Against Simon Fraser Tuesday

San Antonio – The Simon Fraser Clan took both games of a softball doubleheader from the Trinity Tigers Tuesday night.

Simon Fraser, from British Columbia, and a member of the NAIA, won the opening game 11-0 (five innings, run rule), and took the second 11-4.

The Tigers now stand at 8-14, and the Clan improved to 12-4.

Trinity did not get a hit in the first game, and committed two errors, while leaving two players on base. The Tigers had one walk in the game, and got on base on a fielding error. Simon Fraser scored seven earned runs and stranded eight runners. Tiger first-year right-hander Sydney Friday (2-6) was the starter and took the loss.

The second game looked like it would be a complete turnaround. Trinity tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first, as first-year first baseman Megan Russell came around to score after recording her fifth double of the season. The Tigers took a 4-3 lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. First-year pitcher/outfielder Sarah Rabaey, cracked an RBI single, which scored senior designated hitter Caitlin Richards.

The tide turned as Simon Fraser scored eight runs over the next four innings to win the game, and the Tigers were unable to score again.

Rabaey, a right-hander, was the starting pitcher, and hurled the first three innings. She allowed one earned run, four hits, one walk, and struck out two batters. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Annie Clarke entered in the fourth inning, and pitched for three innings. Clarke (3-2), who took the loss, yielded three earned runs, five hits and four walks.

MacPherson had a stolen base in each game, and is now 17-17 on the bases.

The Tigers will host the University of Dallas in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday, starting at 2 p.m.
