Comeback Win in Game Two Gives Tiger Softball a Split With TLU

San Antonio - Trinity's softball team avoided a doubleheader sweep with a comeback win in game two against Texas Lutheran University on Tuesday evening.

Trinity (5-5) lost the opening game 14-10, despite holding a 10-6 lead after the fifth inning.  The Bulldogs opened the second game with a seven-run first inning, and were poised to take both ends of the doubleheader.

After scoring four of the next five runs, the Tigers were back in the game, but the Bulldogs still held an 8-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.  Trinity sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth, though, pounding out eight runs on five hits.

In the opening game, Trinity scored five runs in the second and third innings to take a 5-2 lead, then saw TLU score four runs in the next two innings to pull ahead 6-5.

The Tigers answered with a five-run inning in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead, but the Bulldogs used a six-run sixth to take the lead for good.

Karen MacPherson had two hits and drove in two runs in the opening game, while Megan Russell also had a multi-hit game to start the day.

Lindsay Weyand was 3-4 with two RBI in the opener, while Ana Garcia scored a pair of runs.

Sydney Friday started for the Tigers in game one, but took a no-decision after giving up six runs - three earned - on 10 hits through five innings.

Sarah Rabaey's three-run triple broke open game two, and put the Tigers ahead for the first time in the game.  Becca Rush had a pair of hits and four RBI - including a two-run single in the decisive sixth inning.

MacPherson and Rachel Garrett had two hits and scored two runs each, while Russell was 2-3 with two runs and two RBI.  Garcia also had two hits in that second game.

Annie Clarke (2-0) earned the complete-game victory, striking out five and giving up just four earned runs (eight runs total).

Trinity will continue its homestand with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader against Evangel University.
