#6 Trinity Defeats #13 Redlands to Finish West Coast Trip

Redlands, California - The sixth-ranked Tiger men’s tennis team iced its West Coast swing with a 7-2 victory Tuesday over the No. 13 University of Redlands Bulldogs.

The Tigers (12-5) went 4-1 on their trip to Washington state and California, which included all matches against ranked teams.

Trinity began Tuesday’s match with a sweep of the doubles competition. Paxton Deuel and Nico Moreno fought their way to a 9-8 victory in No. 1 doubles. Greg Haugen and Jordan Mayer won No. 2 doubles 8-5, while Clayton Niess and Charlie Curtis were 8-6 winners on the No. 3 line.

Aaron Skinner came through in a three-setter at No. 3 singles, winning 4-6, 6-4, 10-4, and  Moreno took the No. 4 match 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. Jordan Mayer now stands at 14-1 after defeating his Redlands opponent 6-2, 6-2. Connor Dunn was in the win column at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 score.

Deuel came up just short at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-7, 10-6, while Haugen lost  a  tightly played No. 2 match 7-5, 7-6.

The Tigers will host Hardin-Simmons University and Laredo Community College on March 29.
