Men's Tennis Falls to Division II St. Edward's on Friday

Austin, Texas - The Trinity men's tennis team lost a 3-6 inter-divisional match against St. Edward’s University on Friday afternoon.

Trinity (8-4) is ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III, while St. Edward’s holds a No. 24 ranking in Division II.

Greg Haugen captured No. 2 singles, with a straight-sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory. Haugen is now sporting an 8-3 record this season. Nico Moreno was a 6-4, 6-4 winner on the No. 3 line, while Connor Dunn took the No. 6 match 6-3,  6-0.

Jordan Mayer’s nine-match winning streak was halted with a 7-6, 6-3 loss at No. 4 singles. Mayer now stands at 9-1 in dual matches.

Aaron Skinner was edged 6-7, 7-5, 10-4 at No. 1 singles, and Chas Mayer lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. Haugen and Jordan Mayer fell 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Moreno and Skinner came up short 8-5 in the No. 2 tandem match. Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess also lost 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

The Tigers will make a five-match trip to Washington state and California March 7-11. The opener is scheduled for March 7 at Whitman University in Walla Walla, Washington.
