San Antonio - Trinity's men's tennis team earned a 5-4 win over Tyler Junior College on Friday afternoon, avenging a 5-4 loss from earlier this season.
The Tigers improved to 4-2 overall this season, with the only losses coming to Tyler and Division I University of Texas-San Antonio.
Trinity's Chas Mayer clinched the match with his three-set victory at No. 6 singles on Friday. Mayer won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to earn the team's fifth overall point.
In doubles, the Tigers opened with an 8-6 win by Greg Haugen and Jordan Mayer from line two. Tyler then tied the match with an 8-5 win in the third position, but Trinity's Paxton Deuel and Nico Moreno scored an 8-5 win from the top spot to put the Tigers in front.
The teams split the singles matches, beginning with Tyler's straight-set win at No. 2 singles that tied the overall score 2-2. Jordan Mayer quickly put Trinity back in front with his 7-6, 6-1 win at line five. Tyler rallied once again, handing Deuel his first singles loss of the spring season in No. 1 singles.
Senior Greg Haugen then won 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to continue the see-saw battle, setting up the clincher by Chas Mayer.
Trinity continues a three-match home stand tomorrow morning, facing off against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 9:00 a.m., and Midwestern State University at 3:00 p.m. The matches will be the last home contests for the Tigers until March 29.
