Paxton Deuel Falls at ITA Singles Tournament

Fort Myers, Florida - Trinity Tigers sophomore Paxton Deuel lost in the singles quarterfinals Thursday of the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships at Three Oaks Tennis Center.

Deuel, the tournament’s No. 4 seed, fell 7-5, 6-3 to Abhishek Alla of Carnegie Mellon. Up next for Deuel is the consolation semifinals on Friday at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time. He takes on top-seeded Eric Halpern of Emory. Halpern was upset in a three-set match by Kenyon’s Sam Geier in the quarters.

In Wednesday’s play-in match, Deuel beat Andrew La Cava of Whitman 6-2, 6-3. Deuel qualified for the national event by winning the ITA Southwest Region Championship last month at Trinity. 

The Tiger doubles team of junior Brandon Thompson and sophomore Eliot Guin lost a first-round three-set play-in match on Wednesday to La Cava and James Rivers. Thompson and Guin were the regional doubles champions.
