Claremont, California - The Tiger men's tennis team opened up its road trip with a 6-3 win over North Carolina Wesleyan on Thursday evening.
Trinity evened its record at 6-6 on the season, snapping a two-match losing streak. The Tigers opened with three wins in doubles to take the early advantage, then split the six singles contests to score the team victory.
Nicolas Moreno and Charlie Curtis teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, then both Tiger players also won in singles. Curtis won 6-3, 6-3 at the sixth position, while Moreno was a 6-1, 7-5 winner at No. 4 singles.
Aaron Skinner outlasted NC Wesleyan's Robert Kjellberg in a 2-6, 7-5, 14-12 victory at No. 1 singles. Each of Trinity's three singles defeats all came in three-set thrillers.
Also earning doubles victories in Thursday's match were Erick DelaFuente and Jordan Mayer at the top spot, and Greg Haugen and Connor Dunn from the third position. Haugen/Dunn won 8-2, while DelaFuente/Mayer won 8-6 to finish off the sweep in doubles play.
Trinity resumes its road trip action with a match at Cal Lutheran University at 2:00 p.m. (PST) tomorrow. The Tigers also face off against Claremont (Saturday), Case Western Reserve (Monday), and Carnegie Mellon (Tuesday) during the California trip.
