Frey and DelaFuente Finish Fifth; Knoop Advances in Consolations

Mobile, Alabama - The Trinity Tigers men's doubles team of senior Max Frey and junior Erick DelaFuente took home fifth place at the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships on Friday, while first-year Mackenzie Knoop advanced in the singles consolations.

Frey (Tulsa, Okla./Holland Hall) and DelaFuente (El Paso, Texas/Coronado) beat Vassar's Andrew and Ben Guzick 6-4, 6-2 in the fifth-place match at Copeland-Cox Tennis Center. Earlier in the day, the Tiger duo took out DePauw's Sam Miles and Ben Kopecky 6-3, 6-2  in the consolation semifinals.

Knoop (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) advanced to the women's singles fifth-place match with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kalla Schaefer of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Friday's consolation semifinals.  She will meet Washington and Lee's Sonja Meighan at 8:30 a.m. Saturday for fifth-place honors.
