Tiger Men's Tennis Edges Redlands Friday

Redlands, California - Trinity's men's tennis team battled for a 5-4 victory at the University of Redlands on Friday afternoon, earning the team's fifth win in the past six matches.

Trinity improved to 7-4 win the win, which followed yesterday's narrow 5-4 loss to Cal Lutheran University, and made the Tigers 1-1 on their current road trip.

After doubles, the Tigers held a 2-1 lead in the match, as both No. 1 and No. 3 were Trinity victories.  Max Frey and Erick DelaFuente won 8-4, while Ben Carroll and Charlie Curtis took an 8-2 win.  Frey and DelaFuente improved to a team-best 9-2 in doubles this season.

The two teams split six singles matches, with Greg Haugen, Jordan Mayer, and Charlie Curtis earning victories to help clinch the match.  Curtis (6-2, 6-2) and Mayer (6-4, 7-5) won in straight sets, while Haugen took a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.

Curtis was the only Tiger player to earn two points, teaming with Ben Carroll for a win at No. 3 doubles.  Mayer improved to 8-2 in singles, which is the top individual record on the team so far this season.

Trinity will face Pomona-Pitzer Colleges tomorrow afternoon, then will finish its Spring Break trip against Skidmore and Bowdoin on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
