Men's Tennis Sweeps Saturday Action at Home

San Antonio - The Tiger men's tennis team defeated both Our Lady of the Lake University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a pair of home matches on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity won the first five points against OLLU to clinch the overall match victory, though the score ended up much closer in the end, as the Saints won the final four singles matches.  The Tigers swept the doubles matches, then won at the two top singles positions.

Later in the afternoon, Trinity earned a shutout win over UMHB, which is the second shutout of the year for the Tigers.  Each match was won in straight sets.

Max Frey won twice at No. 1 singles, and teamed with Erick DelaFuente for two more wins at No. 1 doubles.  Jacob Straus also picked up four wins on the day, playing No. 3 doubles with Ben Carroll, and securing two additional wins at the No. 2 singles line for the Tigers.

In the OLLU match, three of Trinity's singles losses went to a third set.  DelaFuente lost the opening set 6-3 at No. 3 singles, but battled back with a 6-2 win in the second.  He was then edged 10-8 in the third.  Ben Carroll won the opening set (6-3), but lost the next two (4-6, 5-10) to fall at No. 6 singles.

Jordan Mayer came into the day with a 5-1 singles record this season, but had to settle for a split on Saturday.  He won the opening set 7-6, then lost 1-6 in the second, and 8-10 in the third to snap his three-match win streak in singles play.

Trinity will head to California next weekend, facing off against tough competition on the West Coast.  The Tigers start a five-match road trip on Thursday afternoon at Cal Lutheran University.  Trinity also faces Redlands, Pomona-Pitzer, Skidmore, and Bowdoin to close out the Spring Break trip.
