Tiger Men's Tennis Blanks Austin College Friday
Georgetown, Texas – The Trinity Tigers men’s tennis team, ranked 19th in the NCAA Division III, scored a 9-0 victory Friday over SCAC opponent Austin College at Southwestern University.
Trinity, ranked fourth in the West Region, upped its overall record to 6-9, and 4-4 in Division III competition.
The No. 1 doubles team of Bobby Cocanougher and Cory Kowal defeated Tyler Roush and Anthony Cook 8-2. Max Frey and Erick DelaFuente beat Eric Gordon and Zack Bengston 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Ben Carroll and Don Murray were 8-0 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Trinity did not drop a set in the singles competition.
Frey won No.1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Roush. Cocanougher defeated Anthony Cook 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and DelaFuente took Gordon 6-0, 6-0.
The rest of the matches were 6-0, 6-0 wins for the Tigers. Kowal beat Bengston at No. 4 singles, Murray defeated Jackson at No. 5, and Andrew Hoing rounded out the match at No 6, beating Pompea.
Trinity will meet host Southwestern at 9 a.m. Saturday, and Hendrix at 2 p.m.
