Tiger Men's Tennis Sweeps Hardin-Simmons and Schreiner Saturday

San Antonio - The Trinity University Tigers men's tennis team opened its NCAA Division III schedule with 9-0 victories over Hardin-Simmons and Schreiner Saturday at Delavan Tennis Stadium.

Trinity, ranked No. 13 nationally, and No. 4 in the West Region, improved to 4-5.

Juniors Bobby Cocanougher and Cory Kowal, ranked No. 13 in national doubles, and No. 4 in the West Region, went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. First-year Erick DelaFuente and sophomore Max Frey, ranked eighth in the region, were undefeated at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Ben Carroll and junior Don Murray won both of their No. 3 doubles matches.

DelaFuente (No. 15 nationally, fourth in the region), won No. 3 singles against Hardin-Simmons, and No. 2 against Schreiner. Frey (No. 17 nationally, fifth in the region), took No. 1 singles with Hardin-Simmons. Cocanougher, seventh in the region, won No. 2 singles in the Hardin-Simmons match, and No. 1 against Schreiner.

Trinity begins its California trip Thursday, March 11, at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont. C-M-S is ranked fifth in the nation, and No. 2 in the region.

The Tigers return home April 9 to host McMurry, ranked 11th in the West Region.
