Paul McGinlay is in his 20th season at the helm of the Trinity University Tigers men's soccer team. He has amassed an overall record of 318-57-22 (.829) over the past 19 years.

Coach McGinlay ranks No. 2 in winning percentage and victories among active NCAA Division III coaches, and is sixth in all NCAA divisions.

He led Trinity to a 24-0-0 record and the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2003. It was the first NCAA title - in any division - for a soccer team in the state of Texas.

Trinity was also in the NCAA semifinals in 2002, finishing 20-1-2 for the year, and reaching 20 wins for the first time in school history.

Coach McGinlay had led the Tigers to 13 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships (1993, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and 13 appearances in the NCAA playoffs, including eight in a row. He is an 11-time SCAC Coach of the Year honoree and guided the Tigers to an undefeated conference schedule 12 times in his career. Coach McGinlay has also been selected as National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) South Central Region Coach of the Year six times, including 2008.

His teams have produced 21 All-Americans over the past 14 years.

During the summer of 2000, Coach McGinlay was the head boys coach of the United States Soccer Federation's (USSF) Region III Olympic Development Program (ODP). He was responsible for selecting the top aged 14-through-18 players in an 11-state region. The players competed against other regional squads and had the chance for selection to national teams. Coach McGinlay is also an assistant national staff coach for the NSCAA and is assistant director for the Region III Boys ODP.

Coach McGinlay joined the Trinity staff in 1991 from the College of Wooster (Ohio) where he was the assistant men's soccer coach for four seasons. While Coach McGinlay was at Wooster, the Scots captured two North Coast Athletic Conference titles and made two trips to the NCAA Division III postseason tournament.

Coach McGinlay holds a USFF "A" license and an Advanced National Diploma from the NSCAA.

A native of Corby, England, Coach McGinlay earned the  bachelor's degree from the University of London.

Coach McGinlay resides in San Antonio with his wife Whitney and a daughter (Claire, age 8) and son (Dylan, age 6).



Kelly Altman

Kelly Altman is in his fourth season as the assistant coach for the Tigers soccer program. Coach Altman joined the Trinity men’s coaching staff in the fall of 2007 after receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Trinity in Communication.

A defender for the Tigers from 2001 to 2004, he played an integral role in the Tigers’ NCAA National Championship winning season in 2003. A team captain in 2004, Coach Altman contributed to the success of a squad which amassed an overall record of 79-5-2 and set and all division’s record with 43 consecutive wins.

With his collegiate soccer career complete, Coach Altman maximized his final year of athletic eligibility in 2005, as a kicker on the Tigers football team. An All-SCAC and All-South Region honoree, he was named the SCAC Special Teams Player-of-the-Year.

Along with his coaching duties at Trinity, Coach Altman is the head boy’s varsity soccer coach at San Antonio’s Central Catholic High School. Coach Altman has led the Buttons to an overall record of 62-9-3, three district titles, three straight top 10 finishes in the San Antonio Express-News’ area rankings, including the No. 1 spot in 2008 and two Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) state titles in his three seasons. For his efforts, Coach Altman was named TAPPS 5A Coach-of-the-Year across all sports.

Coach Altman holds the Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico (Albuquerque Academy), Coach Altman resides in San Antonio with his wife, Ashley, a 2007 graduate of Trinity.
