Trinity Opens Final Weekend of Regular Season With Win Over Austin

Sherman, Texas - The fifth-ranked Trinity Tiger men's soccer team scored three first-half goals en route to a 4-0 shutout of the Austin College Kangaroos in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday afternoon.

Trinity, the defending conference champion, remained undefeated at 13-0-2, and 8-0-0 SCAC. Austin College dropped to 5-9-2 and 1-7-0 SCAC.

Zach Garcia opened the scoring for the Tigers, in the 14th minute of play, and was assisted by Andrew Soares. Josh Adams scored his team-best 15th goal of the season, on an assist by Cameron Hogsett, in the 24th minute. Raz Forsten gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead going into halftime, with a goal in the 27th minute. Yuri Ribeiro recorded the first of his two assists.

There would not be another ball put past the keeper until the 74th minute, when Jeff Hayes and Ribeiro provided the scoring combination.

Trinity goalkeeper Tim Nelin accounted for three saves in 45 minutes of playing time.  Overall, the Tigers led the 'Roos 36-7 in total shots, and 15-3 on the mark.

Trinity wraps up its regular-season schedule Sunday in Irving, Texas, with a 2 p.m. SCAC game against the University of Dallas. The Tigers will compete Nov. 4-5 at the SCAC Tournament at Birmingham, Ala. The winner of the event earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
