Trio of Tigers Headline All-SCAC Men's Soccer Teams

San Antonio - The Trinity University Tigers men's soccer team won three of the four top awards of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Paul McGinlay was elected SCAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year for the sixth consecutive season. Junior midfielder Zach Garcia was named SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, and first-year forward Yuri Ribeiro was voted SCAC Newcomer of the Year.

Coach McGinlay, in his 20th season at the Tigers helm, earned Coach of the Year honors for the 12th time overall. He guided the top-ranked Tigers to a 14th SCAC Championship overall, and 13th in the past 15 years. Coach McGinlay has amassed a record of 336-59-23 (.831) with the Tigers. Trinity chalked up an 11-0-0 SCAC record this season, which is the ninth time the team has recorded an undefeated and untied conference mark.

Garcia, from Dallas (Lake Highlands), is third in the SCAC with 29 points, and is tied for third in goals scored, with 12. His five assists are seventh in conference rankings. A Second Team All-American last year, Garcia is the fourth consecutive Trinity player to earn SCAC Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Ribeiro, from Salvador, Brazil (Seton Catholic; Chandler, Ariz.), leads the Tigers, and is tied for the SCAC lead with 15 goals. Ribeiro's 35 points are tops in the SCAC, and his five game-winning goals are the second-most in the conference. He became Trinity's first Newcomer of the Year honoree since Robert C'deBaca in 2006.

Joining Garcia and Ribeiro on the All-SCAC First Team are senior forward Tommy Barros of San Antonio (Churchill); sophomore midfielder Nima Naderi of Carrollton, Texas (Creekview); and sophomore defender Denny Mask of Tulsa, Okla. (Holland Hall).

Two seniors were elected to the All-SCAC Second Team: goalkeeper Joe Benefield of Dallas (Jesuit College Prep); and defender Chris Schardon of The Woodlands, Texas (The Woodlands).

Selected for the All-SCAC Third Team were junior midfielder Josh Adams of Houston (Clear Brook); junior forward Cameron Hogsett of McKinney, Texas (McKinney); junior defender Grant Shopoff of Memphis (Christian Brothers); and sophomore midfielder Kyle Porter of Albuquerque, N.M. (Eldorado).

Trinity leads all of Division III in goals scored (86) and goals scored per game (3.91). The Tigers have yielded only 16 goals (0.73 per game) this season, and registered 10 shutouts.

The Tigers are competing in their 14th NCAA Division III Tournament, and ninth in a row. Trinity (19-2-1) defeated Pacific (Ore.) 3-1 in the opening round, and then advanced 4-2 on penalty kicks, after a 0-0 tie, over Texas-Tyler in the second round. On Saturday, Trinity tangles with Lynchburg (Va.) at the NCAA Sectional (third round) at Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio. It will mark Trinity's seventh appearance in the Sectional round. The winner plays in Sunday's quarterfinals.

Trinity will co-host, with San Antonio Sports, the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Soccer semifinals and finals Dec. 3-4 at Blossom Soccer Stadium.
