Kyle Porter Named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week
San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers sophomore midfielder Kyle Porter of Albuquerque, N.M. (Eldorado), has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Porter helped lead the Tigers to two SCAC shutout victories last week over Sewanee and Oglethorpe.
Trinity is the top-ranked team in the latest NSCAA Division III poll, while D3soccer.com has the Tigers ranked third in the nation.
The Tiger defense allowed just 13 total shots in the two games. Porter contributed to the offensive side by scoring the game-winning goal in the 1-0 win over Oglethorpe. He scored on a diving header which pushed the Tigers to atop the SCAC standings.
Trinity, led by 20th-year head coach Paul McGinlay, has won eight straight games. The Tigers stand at 16-2-0 overall, and the defending SCAC champions also have an unblemished 9-0-0 conference record in 2010.
The Tigers wrap up their regular-season campaign next weekend, with two SCAC road games. Trinity takes on DePauw Friday at Greencastle, Ind., and Centre on Sunday at Danville, Ky.
