Men's Soccer Ranked 16th in NSCAA Preseason Poll

San Antonio - Trinity's men's soccer team has been ranked 16th in the preseason poll released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The Tigers finished the 2009 campaign with a 15-2-2 record, but suffered an early exit from the NCAA Playoffs.

All-American Zach Garcia leads four returning starters for Trinity this season.  Patrick Cunagin, Nima Naderi, and CH Farmer will also look to be back in the starting lineup.  Among returning players, Tommy Barros is the leading scorer from last season.  Barros finished with five goals for the year, including three game-winners.

Head Coach Paul McGinlay enters his 20th season at the helm, having secured more than 300 wins and a winning percentage of .829 in his first 19 years.  McGinlay is second in wins and winning percentage among active coaches in Division III, and is also sixth among all NCAA divisions.

Following the Sept. 1 opener with Schreiner, the Tigers will play 10 games on the Trinity Soccer Field: Texas Lutheran (Sept. 16), fifth-ranked Christopher Newport (Oct. 1), Rowan (Oct. 3), Colorado College (Oct. 8, SCAC), Austin College (Oct. 10, SCAC), Millsaps (Oct. 15, SCAC), Birmingham-Southern (Oct. 17, SCAC), California-Santa Cruz (Oct. 23, Alumni Weekend), Sewanee (Oct. 29, SCAC), and Oglethorpe (Oct. 31, SCAC).

The Tigers will have a rematch with 18th-ranked Hardin-Simmons on Sept. 10 at Georgetown, Texas.  Last season, Hardin-Simmons eliminated Trinity from the postseason with a 2-0 win.
