Five Tigers Selected to NSCAA All-Region Team

San Antonio - Five Trinity Tigers have been elected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III Men's West Region Team.

Patrick Johnson, Alan Llobet, Zach Garcia and Ben Grossman made the West Region First Team. Chesley Farmer was a Third Team honoree.

Grossman, a senior forward from Encinitas, Calif. (La Costa Canyon), was earlier voted the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He was third in the SCAC with 32 points this scoring 14 goals and recording four assists.  Grossman tied for the SCAC lead with 14 goals, and also led the conference with six game-winning goals. The Tigers scored 42 goals this season.

Llobet, a senior defender from Missouri City, Texas (Elkins), was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He anchored a Trinity defense that allowed just 12 goals in 19 games this season. Llobet also had game-winning goals in two overtime SCAC victories.

Garcia, a defensive midfielder from Dallas (Lake Highlands), was a key component in stopping the Tigers' opponents' attacks. 

Johnson, a senior goalkeeper from Houston (Memorial), earned All-Region honors for the second straight year. He was an All-Region Second Team recipient in 2008. Johnson registered 41 saves and eight shutouts.

Farmer, a sophomore midfielder from Dallas (Lake Highlands), scored one goal, and contributed four assists, taking only four shots on goal.

The Tigers, led by 19th-year head coach Paul McGinlay, completed the season with a 15-2-2 record, and a No. 16 national ranking. Coach McGinlay earned his 11th SCAC Coach of the Year award, securing the honor for the fifth consecutive season.  Trinity won its eighth straight conference title, with a 10-0-0 record. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA playoffs for the eighth consecutive time, but were upset in the second round.
