Trinity Men's Soccer Ties Birmingham-Southern on Friday

Birmingham, Alabama - The eighth-ranked Trinity University Tigers men and the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game Friday night.

Trinity now stands at 7-1-2 and Birmingham-Southern is 7-1-1. The Panthers games do not count in SCAC standings because Birmingham-Southern is in transition from the NCAA Division I to Division III.

Tiger sophomore midfielder Josh Adams scored an unassisted goal 2:23 into the second half. Panthers sweeper Kyle Sherrin evened the score with an assisted goal in the 81st minute.

Trinity senior goalkeeper Patrick Johnson recorded two saves in the game.

The Tigers led the Panthers 20-10 in shots, and 6-3 in shots on goal. Trinity had 10 corner kicks and Birmingham-Southern was awarded seven.

In overtime games, the Tigers are 1-0-2 this season. Trinity beat Colorado College 1-0 in a SCAC game on Sept. 20 in Colorado Springs. The Tigers tied the University of the Incarnate Word – a member of Division II - 0-0 in a home game on Sept. 28.

Trinity, defending conference champion, continues its SCAC campaign Sunday in Jackson, Miss., with Millsaps College. Game time is 11 a.m.
