Trinity Men's Soccer Earns Shutout Win Over Rowan Saturday
San Antonio - The 11th-ranked Trinity Tigers shut out the Rowan (N.J.) Profs 4-0 Saturday night, winning their seventh straight game.
Trinity improved to 7-1-0 and Rowan dropped to 4-3-1. The Tigers registered their sixth shutout of the season and fifth in a row.
Senior forward Ben Grossman scored the third goal of the game (on an assist from sophomore midfielder Josh Adams), in the 70th minute. Grossman, who has seven goals this season, needs just one more to become the 11th player in Trinity history to score 30 or more times in a career.
The opening score was a goal by senior forward Joseph DeCosta in the 24th minute. Grossman provided the assist on DeCosta's game-winner of the campaign.
Junior midfielder Tommy Barros scored in the second half, in the 49th minute, assisted by sophomore midfielder Chesley Farmer. The final score of the game was produced by sophomore forward Peter Philpott, in the 76th minute. Sophomore midfielder Andrew Soares picked up the assist.
Trinity led Rowan 24-7 in shots, and 14-1 in shots on goal. The Tigers held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tigers will host the University of the Incarnate Word at 7:00 p.m. Monday. The game will be played for the Gordon Hartman Cup, named after the San Antonio philanthropist. Mr. Hartman will present the trophy to the winning team.
