Pat Cunningham has been the head coach of the Trinity University Tigers since 1999, and he is the winningest men’s basketball coach in Trinity history.

 

He has led the Tigers to four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships, and six NCAA Division III postseason appearances, including 2009. Coach Cunningham has chalked up a record of 126-45 (.735) in the SCAC.

 

Trinity advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2005. The Tigers completed that season with a school-record 25 victories. Coach Cunningham’s teams have produced six 20-win seasons.

Respected by his peers, coach Cunningham was elected the SCAC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year on four occasions, in 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2009.

 

He has served as a member of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship Committee since 2007.  Coach Cunningham also was instrumental in helping to start the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III All-Star Game which was held in the spring of 2010. The game will continue to be a part of the DIII Basketball Championship weekend.

 

Coach Cunningham was the head coach at the University of Chicago from 1991, until he joined the Trinity staff in 1999. His Chicago Maroons advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championships twice in a three-year period. He was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Coach of the Year three of his last four seasons at Chicago.

 

During that time period, coach Cunningham’s teams compiled a remarkable 82-23 record, including two UAA championships and two runners-up finishes.

 

He was the head coach at Manchester College (Ind.) from 1987 to 1991 and was an assistant at Illinois State University from 1981 to 1987.

 

Coach Cunningham holds a Bachelor of Arts from Kalamazoo College (Mich.) and a Master of Science from Illinois State.

 

Coach Cunningham and his wife, Mary Jo, are the parents of a son and daughter, fraternal twins Casey and Claire.

Ross Burt has been the Tigers men’s assistant coach since 2007.

Coach Burt was a standout for the Tigers from the 2002-03 to 2005-06 seasons. A team captain, coach Burt earned First Team All-SCAC honors and was selected for the D3hoops.com All-South Region Team. He also scored over 1,000 career points and was a member of the winningest class in Tigers history.

He also served as a part-time assistant at Trinity during the 2006-07 campaign. Coach Burt assists in recruiting, on-court coaching, scouting and game preparation, organizing practices, coordinating travel plans and conducting individual workouts.

Coach Burt, a native of Houston, earned the Bachelor of Science in business accounting from Trinity in 2006 and went on to receive a Master of Science in accounting the following year.

He joined the Trinity staff full time from PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, where he worked as a public accountant.

Reagan Lewis

Reagan Lewis

Title: Volunteer Assistant

Reagan Lewis joins the Tiger men’s basketball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant this season, after serving as a coach with the San Antonio Elite club team since 2008. 

Lewis received his BS in Accounting at Trinity in 2008, then went on to earn his Master’s degree from UTSA.  He is a former Tiger student-athlete, and was part of Trinity’s SCAC Championship football teams in 2004 and 2005. 

In addition to coaching with the San Antonio Elite – including as the team’s head coach in 2011 – Coach Lewis has also worked as a coach the past two years at the Jerheme Urban Football Camp in Victoria, Texas, and was an assistant football coach with the San Antonio Academy in 2009.

Lewis is a CPA at a small tax practice in San Antonio.
