San Antonio - Trinity's Danny Rivara has been tabbed as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Rivara was instrumental in the Tigers' two victories last week. Trinity beat Howard Payne (TX) University 92-90 in a thrilling overtime home matchup. The Tigers then traveled to Belton, Texas, and defeated the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 74-66.
The sophomore forward hit the game-winning shot against Howard Payne, sinking a basket with 9.8 seconds left on the clock in the OT period. Rivara poured in a career-high and team season-best 30 points. He also produced his second double-double of the campaign by pulling in a season-leading 12 rebounds.
Rivara scored 13 points in the road game with Mary Hardin-Baylor. He also added eight rebounds in the process.
This season, Rivara is tops in Trinity scoring with an average of 14.6 points per contest. Rivara also leads the team with 9.2 rebounds per game and is #1 with nine total blocks. He is shooting 30-63 from the field for 47.6%.
Led by 19th-year Head Coach Pat Cunningham, the Tigers stand at 3-2 on the season. Trinity will host Sul Ross State (TX) University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28.
