Trinity Men's Basketball Picks Up First Win of Season
Georgetown, Texas -- The Trinity Tigers men picked up their
first win of the season with a 60-54 victory Friday over the Albion
(Mich.) Britons at the Southwestern/Trinity Classic.
Trinity (1-6) was paced by first-year forward Robert Kitzinger
(Carmel, Ind./Carmel) who scored 19 points, with 16 coming in the
second half. Kitzinger shot 6-9 from the field, 5-7 in 3-point
range, and sank 2-2 free throws. Senior forward Luke Caldarera
(Houston/Katy Taylor) added 14 points, on 7-13 shooting.
Junior guard Ryan Beall of Santa Barbara, Calif. (Dos Pueblos) did
not score any points, but contributed a game-best and
season-leading eight assists. First-year forward Zach Lambert
(Frisco, Texas/Centennial) led the game with six rebounds,
while scoring two points.
Matt Feldman (Honolulu/Punahou), a first-year guard, accounted for
four steals, four assists, and four points. First-years Jonathan
Wilt (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and Clarke Allan (Austin,
Texas/Westlake) each scored seven points.
The Britons led the Tigers 28-22 at halftime. But, Trinity was all
business in the second half, shooting 65 percent to 44 percent.
Down by 10 points (33-43, 11:36), the Tigers started a second-half
comeback on a 3-pointer by Kitzinger. Trinity closed to within one
point (47-48, 6:01) on a layup by Feldman.
Trinity took a three-point lead (51-48, 4:50) on a free throw by
Allan. The game, however, was far from decided, as Albion went up
54-51 (2:20) on a layup by Cruse. Kitzinger's shot from beyond the
arc tied the score at 54-54 (2:11), and his two free throws put the
Tigers up for good (56-54, 1:20). Caldarera had the honors for the
final buckets of the game, on two layups.
The Tigers shot 51.1 percent (24-47) from the field, and limited
the Britons to 42 percent (21-50), the lowest percentage by a
Trinity opponent this season. Albion held a 31-27 edge in
rebounding.
Albion (4-4) was led by J.C. Cruse, with 22 points, and Chris
Hutton's 19-point performance.
Trinity takes on Hardin-Simmons at 2 p.m. Saturday at
Southwestern's Robertson Center.
