Trinity Finishes California Trip With Loss at Pomona

Claremont, Calif. - The Trinity Tigers men completed the David Wells Basketball Classic with a 67-54 loss to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens Saturday night.
 
Trinity dropped to 0-5, and Pomona-Pitzer improved to 1-3. On Friday, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beat the Tigers 76-63. Trinity junior forward Ryan Beall scored a career-best 17 points in the tournament opener.
 
Senior forward Luke Caldarera led the Tigers Saturday with 14 points, seven rebounds, and a game-best four steals. Beall contributed nine points, three assists, and three steals.
 
The Tigers held a 28-27 lead at halftime, but were outscored 40-26 in the second half by the Sagehens. Pomona-Pitzer shot 65 percent in the second half, to 29 percent for Trinity.
 
James Moss and Donald Okpalugo of Pomona-Pitzer led the game with 18 points each. Jake Klewer pulled in 15 rebounds (three points).
 
The Sagehens hit 48.2 percent (27-56) from the field, and the Tigers shot 33.9 percent (21-62).  Pomona-Pitzer led 40-29 in total rebounds.
 
Trinity opens its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign Friday, Dec. 3, at Georgetown, Texas, with an 8 p.m. game against Southwestern.
