Tiger Men Defeat Colorado College to Take Over First in SCAC West Division
San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers men's
basketball team won its third straight game with a 66-56 SCAC
victory over the Colorado College Tigers Friday night in Sams
Gym.
Trinity (12-10, 9-5 SCAC), which has won four of its last five
outings, also took over first place in the SCAC West Division from
Colorado College (12-10, 8-5) by a half-game. Colorado College beat
Trinity 69-54 on New Year's Eve in Colorado Springs.
Senior forward Luke Caldarera (Houston/Katy Taylor) paced Trinity
with 16 points and a game-leading eight rebounds. Caldarera shot
5-13 from the field, and sank all six free throw attempts.
Sophomore forward Heath Hopson (Lampasas, Texas/Lampasas) added 13
points, shooting 3-3 from the field, 7-8 at the charity stripe, and
dishing out three assists. First-year forward Zach Lambert (Frisco,
Texas/Centennial) accounted for 11 points, and led the game with
three steals.
Trinity shot over 52 percent in the first half, and led 32-24 at
the intermission. The Tigers jumped out to a 15-point lead (43-28)
with less than 15 minutes on the clock in the second half. Colorado
College did close to within five points (52-57) with 4:31
remaining. But Trinity outscored its opponent 9-4 to wrap up the
game.
Ben Foley of Colorado College led the game with 20 points, and Ian
Rewoldt added 14.
Trinity shot 48.9 percent (22-45) from the field, and Colorado
College hit 44.4 percent (20-45), The Colorado Tigers led 27-24 in
rebounding.
The Trinity Tigers led 15-5 in points off turnovers. Colorado
College committed 13 turnovers, and Trinity made only five.
Trinity will next host Austin College in a SCAC game at 3 p.m. Sunday.
