Luke Caldarera Named SCAC Player of the Week
San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers senior forward Luke Caldarera (Houston/Katy Taylor) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Caldarera, who earned the honor for the second time this season, was instrumental in the Tigers' SCAC road victories last weekend at Millsaps (Jackson, Miss.) and Hendrix (Conway, Ark.).
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Caldarera averaged 18.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in the two conference match-ups.
Caldarera scored 19 points, grabbed two rebounds, tallied two blocks, registered an assist, and shot 51.6 percent (16-31) from the field in the 53-45 win over Millsaps last Friday night. He scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds in the Tigers 60-45 victory over Hendrix, while adding two blocks, one assist and one steal.
For the season, Caldarera is averaging 13.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Trinity (11-10, 8-5 SCAC) clinched a berth in the SCAC Championship Tournament Feb. 25-27 at Millsaps in Jackson. The winner of the eight-team event gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
The Tigers, who have won two straight games, and three of the
last four, are in second place in the SCAC West Division. Trinity
is just a half-game behind first-place Colorado College, which
visits Sams Gym at 8 p.m. Friday. The Tigers then host Austin
College in a SCAC game
at 3 p.m. Sunday.
