Men's Hoops Downs Schreiner Saturday Night
Kerrville, Texas - Trinity's men's basketball team earned its first win of the young season with a 61-52 victory at Schreiner University on Saturday night.
Trinity (1-3) led 27-21 at the half, then opened up a 13-point lead early in the second period, controlling the action for most of the game.
Junior Luke Caldarera posted his third-straight double-double in the game, scoring 15 points to go with 10 rebounds in his 38 minutes of play.
Michael Tobolowsky continued his strong offensive play with a game-high 19 points on 8-9 shooting for the Tigers. He also picked up five boards and three assists in the game.
Bryant Wilson, a former quarterback for the Trinity football team, added 12 points and four rebounds. Ryan Beall came off the bench with a game-best seven assists, adding four points and seven boards.
Aside from the opening minutes, Trinity led the entire game, using a 14-0 run early in the first half to take a 16-4 lead. Schreiner kept chipping away at the lead the rest of the half, cutting it to just four (23-19) with just over two minutes to play.
In the second half, the hometown Mountaineers got to within three with 17:44 to play, but again, the Tigers used an extended run to take control. This time it was a 10-0 run and Schreiner never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Ralph Turner led Schreiner with 14 points, while David Flannery chipped in with nine points and three rebounds.
Trinity will not play again until December 3, facing off against Southwestern in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener.
