Tiger Basketball Falls to Midwestern State in Season Opener

Austin, Texas - Trinity's men's basketball team opened the 2009-10 season with a 63-52 loss to Division II Midwestern State University on Sunday afternoon in the St. Edward's Shootout.

Trinity (0-1) trailed by just three points (25-28) at halftime, as neither team was able to put together much offensively.  Midwestern State exploded in the second half, though, hitting over 63% from the field over the final 20 minutes.  The Tigers shot 33% in both halves, but hit just 3-17 (17.6%) overall from three-point range.

Ryan Beall led the Tigers with 14 points in the game, hitting 6-13 from the field and dishing out six assists.  Heath Hopson came off the bench with 13 points on 4-6 shooting.

NABC All-District returner Luke Caldarera finished with a game-high 13 rebounds to go with his seven points, but struggled with his shooting.  He hit just 3-15 from the field in the game.

Chris Hagan scored 22 for the Mustangs to lead all scorers, while Charlie Logan came off the bench with a solid double-double.  Logan had 12 points and 10 boards for Midwestern State, playing in 24 minutes.

Trinity will take on Texas A&M-Commerce to conclude its part in the tournament tomorrow afternoon.  The Tigers make their home debut on December 3 against Southwestern, which will also be the team's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener.
