Luke Caldarera Earns First Team All-SCAC Honors
San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers junior
forward Luke Caldarera of Houston (Katy Taylor), was elected to the
All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball First
Team.
Caldarera was an All-SCAC First Team honoree in 2009, and also
received All-South District Second Team honors from the National
Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
The 6-foot-4 Caldarera is fifth in SCAC scoring (15.0 points per game) and rebounding (7.9 per game), and ninth in steals (1.4 per game). He is the only player in the SCAC ranked in the top 10 in all three categories.
Caldarera is ranked in the top 25 all-time Tiger scorers, and has now reached the 1,000-points plateau. He is the 23rd Trinity player to reach the mark.
In last Friday night's 61-52 Trinity victory over Oglethorpe at the SCAC Tournament at Jackson, Miss., Caldarera scored a team season-high 26 points. His scoring performance set a Trinity record in the SCAC Tournament. The previous record was a 22-point game by Chad Stroberg - also against Oglethorpe. Stroberg's 22 points came in the 2004 championship.
Trinity lost 62-44 to defending SCAC champion Centre in Saturday's semifinals.
The Tigers, led by head coach Pat Cunningham, completed the season with a 14-13 overall record, and were 9-7 in the SCAC.
