Trinity Men Even SCAC Record With Win Over Hendrix
Conway, Ark. - Trinity University junior forward Luke Caldarera scored a team season-high 23 points as the Tigers beat the Hendrix College Warriors 61-54 Friday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game in Grove Gymnasium.
Trinity (5-7, 2-2 SCAC) won its second straight game and third of the last four. The Tigers are tied for third place in the SCAC West Division. Hendrix dropped to 4-6 and 1-3 SCAC.
Caldarera, from Houston (Katy Taylor), shot 11-20 from the field, made 1-3 in 3-point range, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out two assists.
Senior guard Michael Tobolowsky of Dallas (Greenhill School), had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior post Peter Garatoni of San Antonio (MacArthur) also scored 10 points. Garatoni had six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Sophomore guard Ryan Beall of Santa Barbara, Calif. (Dos Pueblos), led the Tigers with four assists, while picking up nine rebounds.
Trinity led 30-25 at halftime, and opened up an 11-point lead (50-39), at 9:18 in the second half. The Warriors closed to three (51-54) at 5:31, but Trinity outscored Hendrix 7-3 to close out the game.
The Tigers shot 44 percent from the field, and Hendrix hit 39 percent. Trinity held a 41-33 advantage in rebounding.
Hendrix was paced by Nick Heathscott's 27 points.
The two teams will meet again Feb. 5 in Sams Gym.
Trinity continues its SCAC road trip Saturday in Jackson, Miss., with an 8 p.m. game against Millsaps.
