Trinity Men Get First SCAC Victory of Season
San Antonio - The Trinity University Tigers men earned their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 60-50 win Sunday over the Colorado College Tigers in Sams Gym.
Trinity, which has now won two of its last three games, improved to 4-7 and 1-2 SCAC.
Luke Caldarera, a Trinity junior forward from Houston (Katy Taylor), recorded his fifth double-double of the season. Caldarera scored 16 points and pulled in 14 rebounds. He shot 8-18 from the field, and had two steals.
Ryan Beall, a sophomore guard from Santa Barbara, Calif. (Dos Pueblos), scored 10 points, and led the game with five assists. Beall also picked up six rebounds and two steals. Senior center Peter Garatoni of San Antonio (MacArthur) scored 10 points. Bart Taylor, a senior guard from San Antonio (St. Mary's Hall), added eight points and three assists.
Trinity led 26-19 at halftime. Colorado College closed to two points, 27-29, with 15:24 left in the game. The Trinity Tigers cranked up the lead to eight points, 41-33, at 9:10. The Colorado Tigers inched forward to a three-point difference (42-45, 5:25), but Trinity took as much as an 11-point lead (58-47, 28 seconds left), with a 13-5 scoring drive.
Colorado College (7-4, 3-1 SCAC) was paced by Brady Ohlsen's 17 points and nine rebounds.
Trinity shot 37 percent from the field, to 34 percent by Colorado College. The Trinity Tigers forced 16 turnovers, while committing only eight. Colorado College led 40-36 in rebounding.
The two teams will tangle again Feb. 14, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Trinity goes on the road for two SCAC games Jan. 8 (Hendrix College; Conway, Ark.), and Jan. 10 (Millsaps College; Jackson, Miss.).
The Tigers return home Friday, Jan. 15, to host Oglethorpe in a conference game.
