Trinity Men's Golf Finishes Second at West Region Invitational
Georgetown, Texas - After a strong third round on Tuesday afternoon, the Tiger men's golf team earned a second-place finish at Southwestern University's West Region Invitational.
Trinity and Concordia (TX) tied for second place with a score of 927, but the Tigers earned the second spot by virtue of a tiebreaker. Southwestern won the tournament with a score of 908 for the three rounds.
Three Tigers finished in a tie for ninth place individually, scoring a combined 231 for the tournament. Warren Taylor (77-77-77), Kalen Vos (78-76-77), and Felipe Benalcazar (80-76-75) all tied for the top spot on the team.
Tyler Lehmann tied for 22nd after following up two rounds of 80 with a score of 77 on Tuesday, while Geoffrey Setiawan shot a 238 to finish in a time for 26th individually. Setiawan shot 78 and 79 on Monday, followed by today's 81 to finish the event.
Trinity also had three golfers playing as individuals in the tournament, led by Erik Long-Goheen's total score of 234. Long-Goheen shot 74 today to follow a 77 and an 86 yesterday, earning a tie for 15th place. Eric Davis (82-76-82) and Eric Redeker (78-84-80) finished tied for 32nd and 38th with scores of 240 and 242, respectively.
The Tigers will next play in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the end of the month, in Tunica, Mississippi. Trinity will join the rest of the conference at the Tunica National Golf Course to determine the 2012 conference champion over a span of three days.
