Trinity Men and Women Finish Fifth at SCAC Golf Tourney
Stone Mountain, Ga. – The Trinity Tigers men and women finished fifth Sunday at the rain-delayed Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
The 54-hole tournament was postponed after a partial completion of Saturday’s second round. The remaining holes of the second round, and the entire third round, were played on Sunday at the Stonemont Course.
Trinity’s men shot final rounds of 314-309, for a 938 total, improving from Friday’s sixth-place position. The Tiger women were in fifth place after the first round, and recorded cumulative scores of 359-369 Sunday, for a total of 1,103.
Centre College won the men’s par-70 event, and tied with Southwestern, at 926. Centre was awarded the title based on a tiebreaker. Rhodes placed third (932), and defending SCAC and national champion Oglethorpe was fourth (934), just four strokes ahead of the Tigers. DePauw placed sixth (941), Sewanee was seventh (1,003), Millsaps was eighth (1,022), and Hendrix placed ninth (1,042).
DePauw captured the par-74 women’s tournament, with a
three-day score of 1,014. Centre was runner-up (1,018), defending
champion Southwestern placed third (1,021), and Rhodes was fourth
(1,050). Finishing in back of the Tigers were Millsaps (1,322),
Hendrix (1,335), and Sewanee (1,372).
Trinity’s Jonathan Alden earned men’s All-SCAC honors
for the third straight year, finishing in fourth place. Alden shot
3-over 77 and even-par 74 Sunday, for a 16-over 226 total. Geoffrey
Setiawan placed 13th, shooting 81-77 (236 total). Ryan
Barry finished in a tie for 20th, 76-78 final-round
scores (239). Warren Taylor tied for 26th place (81-84,
243 total), and Nash Kassam was in a tie for 28th
(80-80, 244 total).
Chris Morris of Centre was the men’s champion, with a 6-over 216.
Julia Orrange of Trinity placed 18th in the women’s championship, with final day scores of 90-92, for 270. Madison Wallender placed 20th, with Sunday rounds of 88-90, for 274. Olivia Kotter came in at No. 21, at 91-93, a 275 total. Anne Wooton placed 25th, shooting 90-94 in the final rounds, for a 284. Emma Herzog was in 28th place, with 101-96 Sunday, and a total of 301.
The Tiger men finished fourth at last year’s event, held at Tunica, Miss. Trinity’s women placed fifth at the Tunica National Golf Course.
