Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at Schreiner Tournament

Kerrville, Texas - The Trinity Tigers women's golf team shot a final-round 353 Tuesday and finished fifth at the Schreiner Women's Shootout, held at The Club at Comanche Trace.

Trinity, with a two-day total of 722, finished behind the tournament winner Southwestern (677), runner-up Schreiner (693), third-place Texas-Tyler (710), and No. 4 McMurry (711). The Tigers placed ahead of Texas-Brownsville (735), Texas Lutheran (736), and Texas A&M International (889) at the two-round, par-72 event.

Tiger first-year golfer Madison Wallender of Spring Branch, Texas (Smithson Valley), shot a second-round 86, for a 173 total, and a tie for seventh place. Wallender's 86 was the Tigers' best round of the tournament.

Junior Emma Herzog of Katy, Texas (Cinco Ranch), registered a 90 for the second straight day, and tied for 18th place, at 180. Senior Anne Wooton of Baltimore (Friends School) finished in a tie for the No. 21 slot, with an 89 (five-stroke improvement from the first round) Tuesday, and a 183 total. Senior Olivia Kotter of Akron, Ohio (Firestone), improved her score by 10 strokes (88), for a 186, and a tie for 28th place. Sophomore Julia Orrange of Georgetown, Texas (Georgetown), stood alone at No. 36, with a final-round 94 (five-stroke improvement, 193 total).

Callie Rice of Texas-Tyler won medalist honors, shooting a 6-over 78, for a two-day total of 163.

The Tiger women will next compete starting March 18 at the Jekyll island Women's Collegiate Invitational, in Georgia.
