Steve Mohr, the most successful football coach in Trinity history. He has been at the the Tigers helm since 1989.

Coach Mohr took the Tigers to the 2002 Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, the NCAA Division III National Championship game, in Salem, Va. The Tigers have also played in the national semifinals three times (1998, 1999, and 2002).

His Trinity teams have captured 14 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, and advanced to the NCAA playoffs 11 times since 1994.

Over the past 20 years, Coach Mohr’s squads have posted a record of 160-59. Coach Mohr’s teams have a winning percentage of .731.  Among active Division III coaches, Coach Mohr is ranked ninth in victories (160) and 17th in winning percentage (.731). He is the 21st winningest all-time Division III coach in percentage, and 30th in victories.

Under Coach Mohr’s leadership, the Tigers have produced a 150-29 record over the past 16 season, for a winning percentage of .838. In the SCAC, the Tigers have amassed a record of 82-23 (.781) since 1990.

Respected by his peers, Coach Mohr has been named the SCAC Coach of the Year on 10 occasions, with the most recent in 2007.  He has received four GTE Regional Coach of the Year awards, as selected by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). 

Coach Mohr has been named Division III National Coach of the Year by three organizations, including the Football Gazette in 2002.  He was selected as the 1998 Division III National Coach of the Year by the American Football Gazette, as well as by CBSsportsline.com.

Twenty-five players have earned All-America honors under Coach Mohr’s tutelage. He has also coached a National Player of the Year, along with 15 SCAC Offensive, Defensive, Special Teams Players of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year.

Trinity also garnered national attention in 2007, executing a 15-lateral play - the "Trinity Miracle Play” - to beat Millsaps College and earn the Pontiac Game Changing Performance of the Year award.  The award earned the school over $100,000 towards the general scholarship fund, and also secured an ESPY Award nomination for the Tigers from ESPN.

Prior to joining the Trinity staff in 1990, Coach Mohr was an assistant varsity football and head junior varsity baseball coach at Ithaca College in New York, from 1985-1989.  The Bombers reached the Division III football semifinals three times and won the national title in 1988.  Ithaca was national runner-up in 1985.

Coach Mohr served as an assistant varsity football coach and head baseball coach at the University of Findlay in Ohio, from 1976-1984.  Findlay captured the NAIA Division II football title in 1979 and was runner-up in 1978.

He earned a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Denison University (Ohio) in 1976, and a master's in education from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) in 1977.  As a student-athlete at Denison, Coach Mohr lettered in baseball, basketball, football, and golf.

Coach Dawson begins his first year as the defensive coordinator. He was previously the Tigers defensive backs coach during the 2009 season.

He rejoins the staff of head Coach Steve Mohr, in his 22nd season at the Tigers helm. Coach Mohr has compiled a record of 164-65 (.716) over the past 21 seasons, making him the winningest coach in Trinity history.

Coach Dawson was an assistant at Alamo Heights High School last year, and served as defensive coordinator at San Antonio’s Warren High School in 2008.

For a total of 10 seasons, Coach Dawson was an assistant at Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State) from 1979-1982, and 1997-2002.

Coach Dawson coached for two seasons with the storied Judson High School football team (near San Antonio) in the mid-1990s. At the collegiate level, he also coached at Texas A&M-Kingsville, Southern Utah, Eastern New Mexico, Texas Christian University, and the University of Colorado.  

The versatile Coach Dawson has worked on national and state championship teams during his career, which now includes all three levels in the NCAA (Division I, Division II, and Division III).

Coach Dawson earned a Master of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo. He is a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA),  and the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA).

The Tigers report to camp Aug. 12, and the season kicks off Sept. 3 at Howard Payne in Brownwood, Texas. Trinity opens its five-game home-schedule Sept. 10 by hosting Texas Lutheran at the Trinity University Football season.

Leading the way will be 40 returning lettermen, including 17 starters, from the 2010 season. Trinity finished with a 4-6 overall record, and a 2-4 mark (tied for fifth place) in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. That was the first time in 18 years the Tigers had a below-.500 record.

Alex Cook has been the Tigers' wide receivers coach since 2010. He joined the staff from Division II Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) University, where he served in the same role.

Prior to working at Ouachita, Coach Cook held the wide receivers coaching position at SCAC member Colorado College.

Coach Cook is a native of Thornton, Colorado, and graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in history and political science in 2008.  While at Colorado, he served as an undergraduate assistant for the football program.  In addition to working with the defensive line and wide receivers, he also assisted with recruiting.

During the 2007 season, Coach Cook was at Westminster High School (Colo.), where he coached the running backs.  Midway through the season, he was promoted to offensive coordinator.

Coach Cook and his wife, Eirene, reside in San Antonio.

Mike Inco enters his 15th overall season with the Tigers.  He is now coaching his 12th consecutive year with Trinity, having also been an assistant during the 1990 and 1991 seasons. 

With his leadership, the "Black Flag defense" has enjoyed a great deal of success.  In 2006, Trinity's pass defense was the top-ranked unit in all divisions of the NCAA, and it was also the 22nd-ranked overall defense in Division III.  The team allowed just 11.7 points/game, which was also top 15 in the nation.

Coach Inco also was the defensive coordinator at San Antonio's Kennedy High School from 1992-1997, and is currently a teacher at Memorial High School. 

He began his coaching career at Hobart (NY) College in 1980.  From 1981-88, Coach Inco was a linebackers coach with his alma mater, Ithaca (NY) College. 

He was also a starting linebacker for the Bombers in his final two seasons, and earned his bachelor's degree in health and education from Ithaca in 1979.

Jason Guthrie has been an assistant coach for the Tigers since 2002. He's currently coaching Trinity’s quarterbacks.

Prior to joining the Trinity staff, Coach Guthrie was a high school football for seven years in Tennessee.

Coach Guthrie was the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Brentwood High School for three seasons. The Bruins won the state championship during Coach Guthrie’s final year. Brentwood racked up a 29-7 record during Coach Guthrie’s tenure, and averaged more than 30 points per game.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Kentucky Wesleyan University in 1998, majoring in history and education. Coach Guthrie received a master’s in education leadership from Trinity in 2006.

In addition to his coaching and recruiting duties, Coach Guthrie serves as the co-sponsor of Trinity’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Marshall Fleener has been the Tigers' running backs coach since 2010.


He brings 40 years of experience to the Trinity campus in coaching, teaching, and administration.


Coach Fleener recently retired as an assistant athletic director at San Antonio’s North East Independent School District, a position he held since 2000.


From 1970-1999, Coach Fleener was head football, baseball, and track and field coach at a number of schools. He was head football coach at San Antonio’s Jefferson High School for 12 years, leading the Mustangs to the playoffs four times.

 

Coach Fleener led the Central Catholic High School Buttons for four years. Central played for the state TCIL title in 1983. That same year, Coach Fleener was named Sub-5A Coach of the Year by San Antonio’s two newspapers, the Express-News, and The Light. Central also played in the state semifinals in 1984, and for the TCIL title in 1985.

 

He also served as head track and field coach at San Antonio’s Lee High School for three years, and head baseball coach at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station for one year.

 

A 1970 Texas A&M graduate (physical education), Coach Fleener earned a master’s from A&M in 1974. As an undergraduate, Coach Fleener was a member of the Aggie football program in 1964 and 1965. He played center and linebacker and graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1964.

 

In addition, Coach Fleener served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966-1970.

 

Coach Fleener and his wife, Nancy Joann, have two grown sons, and reside in San Antonio. Their oldest son, Matt, is an elementary physical education teacher in College Station. Jeff, their younger son, is the offensive coordinator at Allen High School.

Paul Michalak has been coaching the defensive line at Trinity since 2009.

Coach Michalak spent three years at Carthage College in Kenosha Wis., serving as a graduate assistant and as a defensive line coach.

As a player at Carthage, Coach Michalak was a four-year letter winner from 2002-2006, and was a member of the 2004 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship team that was ranked fifth nationally.  That season, Carthage was also the top-ranked defense in the nation.

After finishing his undergraduate studies with a double-major in business administration and marketing, Coach Michalak earned a master’s degree from Carthage in 2009.

He was a coach at the Alex Brown Football Camp in 2007 and 2008, and also worked the inaugural Devin Hester Football Camp in 2008.

L.D. Green Sr. joins the Trinity coaching staff with a wealth of experience.

Most recently, the Army Retired Chief Warrant Officer coached at San Antonio’s Central Catholic High School. He was responsible for the defensive backs and defensive line from 2007-2010. Two of Coach Green’s defensive linemen earned All-State honors, and one played in the San Antonio All-Star Game. Seven defensive backs from Central made the All-District Team, and one was selected for the All-State Team.

In addition, Coach Green has served as the strength and conditioning coach at Central.

Coach Green was the receivers and running backs coach at Fort Campbell High School, Ky., from 2006-2007. He also served as offensive coordinator at Moanalua High School, in Honolulu, from 2004-2005.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2010, and is currently working on a master’s.

Coach Green was a starting strong safety in 1981 at Hartnell Junior College, which won the California Junior College Championship.

He is married to Tritia M. Finley, and they have a son, Kai.

Ross Brunelle has been Trinity's linebackers coach since 2010.

Coach Brunelle has served as the cornerbacks coach for three years at his alma mater, Montana-Missoula.  The Grizzlies won three consecutive Big Sky Championships during his time there, and also earned Football Championship Series playoff berths.  Montana-Missoula made two FCS National Championship appearances as well.

Coach Brunelle was previously a student assistant coach with the tight ends, and earned the Bachelor of Arts in sociology and anthropology from Montana in 2007.

As a three-year player for the Grizzlies, Coach Brunelle received All-Big Sky Conference Honorable Mention honors as a fullback, and also played linebacker for two seasons.

Andrew Baker is in his second year as the secondary/defensive backs coach.

During the 2009-2010 season Coach Baker held a similar position at nearby Texas Lutheran University (Seguin, Texas), a member of the American Southwest Conference.

Coach Baker began his career in 2006, as a graduate assistant at Trinity, his alma mater. He was a full-time assistant coach during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

A 2006 graduate of Trinity, Coach Baker earned the Bachelor of Arts in psychology.

He was a two-year starting cornerback for the Tiger squad, and played on Trinity’s  2002 team, which advanced to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl (NCAA Division III Championship game). Trinity won four SCAC Championships during his playing days, and advanced to the NCAA playoffs four times.
