Marshall Fleener has been the Tigers' running backs coach since 2010.
He brings 40 years of experience to the Trinity campus in
coaching, teaching, and administration.
Coach Fleener recently retired as an assistant athletic director
at San Antonio’s North East Independent School District, a
position he held since 2000.
From 1970-1999, Coach Fleener was head football, baseball, and
track and field coach at a number of schools. He was head football
coach at San Antonio’s Jefferson High School for 12 years,
leading the Mustangs to the playoffs four times.
Coach Fleener led the Central Catholic High School Buttons for four years. Central played for the state TCIL title in 1983. That same year, Coach Fleener was named Sub-5A Coach of the Year by San Antonio’s two newspapers, the Express-News, and The Light. Central also played in the state semifinals in 1984, and for the TCIL title in 1985.
He also served as head track and field coach at San Antonio’s Lee High School for three years, and head baseball coach at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station for one year.
A 1970 Texas A&M graduate (physical education), Coach Fleener earned a master’s from A&M in 1974. As an undergraduate, Coach Fleener was a member of the Aggie football program in 1964 and 1965. He played center and linebacker and graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1964.
In addition, Coach Fleener served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966-1970.
Coach Fleener and his wife, Nancy Joann, have two grown sons, and reside in San Antonio. Their oldest son, Matt, is an elementary physical education teacher in College Station. Jeff, their younger son, is the offensive coordinator at Allen High School.
