San Antonio - Trinity senior lineman Alejandro Anzaldua has been tabbed as the Southern Athletic Association Football Defensive Player of the Week.
The 5-foot-6, 232-pound nose guard registered a career-high 12 tackles in Trinity's tightly played 38-35 SAA home loss to Hendrix (AR) College last week. Anzaldua tied Benjamin Milliet for the team's lead in tackles. Additionally, Anzaldua posted seven solo tackles and two for a loss.
This season, Anzaldua is third in Tiger tackles with 45 in his column and leads the team in tackles for a loss with 9.5 for 27 yards. Anzaldua is tied for the lead with three quarterback sacks and stands in second place with seven quarterback hurries. He also has been credited with Trinity's only safety this season. Career-wise, Anzaldua has produced 151 total tackles and 37 for a loss.
Led by fourth-year Head Coach Jerheme Urban, Trinity stands at 5-3 overall and is 4-2 in SAA play. The Tigers conclude their regular-season home schedule Saturday by hosting Austin (TX) College in an SAA game at 6:00 p.m. The matchup will be broadcast by KCWX-TV.
