Darling and Trella Earn Preseason All-America Honors

San Antonio – Trinity football seniors Nick Darling and Kyle Trella have earned Preseason All-America honors from USA College Football, Inc.

Both players also earned similar honors from Beyond Sports Network (BSN), while Trella was also a D3football.com Second Team Preseason All-American.  Darling earned a spot on the USA College Football First Team Defense, while Trella was on the Second Team Defense.  Trella was a First Team honoree for Beyond Sports Network, while Darling was a Second Team selection.

Darling is a 2012 team captain, having recorded 81 tackles in his first year as a starter in 2011.  Darling finished with six tackles for loss, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles on the year.  He was also a First Team All-SCAC selection last season.

Trella averaged 41.7 yards/punt last season, totaling more than 2,600 yards, and finishing 22nd nationally in punting.  Trella was an All-SCAC and All-Region honoree in 2011, as well as earning D3football.com Honorable Mention All-America recognition.  He registered four of the top six single-game punting averages in school history last season (minimum five punts), and is second in school history with more than 6,500 career punting yards.

Trinity is led by Head Coach Steve Mohr, who begins his 23rd season with the Tigers in 2012.  Mohr has recorded 174 victories in his career, which is seventh among active Division III coaches, and in the top 20 all-time.  His career winning percentage of .725 is 24th among active coaches in D-III, and is 26th in NCAA history among all D-III coaches.
