Trinity Football Ranked 16th in Final AFCA Division III Poll
San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers received a final ranking of 16th in the nation in the American Football Coaches Association Division III poll.
Trinity, led by head Coach Steve Mohr, finished the regular
season with a 10-0 record, the Tigers first undefeated campaign
since 2005. The Tigers won their 15th Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Championship, and made a 12th appearance in the NCAA
Division III
Tournament. McMurry beat Trinity 25-16 in the opening round of the
playoffs, in a game played Nov. 19 at the Trinity University
Football Stadium.
Coach Mohr's peers elected him the AFCA Region III Coach of the Year, for the fifth time in his 22 seasons at the Tigers helm. He was also voted the SCAC Coach of the Year, marking the 11th time he was the recipient of the conference accolade.
Junior punter Kyle Trella (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler) was elected to the D3football.com All-American Honorable Mention Team. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Trella earned the honor for the third time, with the first selection in 2009. He also was selected for the D3football.com All-South Region Team. Trella punted 63 times during the 2011 season, for 2,629 yards (41.7 yards per punt).
Senior linebacker Ben Robinson (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) also
made the D3football.com All-South Region Team, and earned the
distinction of being named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year.
The 5-foot-11, 193-pound Robinson led the SCAC in tackles for
a loss (15.0 tackles,
44 yards). Robinson accounted for 93 total tackles (46 solo), three
quarterback sacks, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions. He
was part of Team Stars & Stripes (Division III all-stars) who
played an elite Mexican team last weekend at the Tazón de
Estrellas (Bowl of the
Stars) in Puebla, Mexico.
