Phillip Hiner-Leamon Elected to SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team
San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers junior
linebacker Phillip Hiner-Leamon (Frisco, Texas/Greenhill High
School) has been named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Football All-Sportsmanship Team.
The SCAC places a special emphasis on sportsmanship each year, and
has asked all fans of the conference to exhibit good sportsmanship
at all conference functions throughout the 2011-2012 season.
The 6-foot, 220-pound Hiner-Leamon earlier was elected to the
All-SCAC First Team. During the season, Hiner-Leamon tied for the
SCAC lead with six quarterback sacks, for a loss of 23 yards. He
registered 44 total tackles (23 solo), 11 tackles for a loss
of 39 yards, six quarterback hurries, and forced two
fumbles.
Last summer, Hiner-Leamon participated in a prestigious United
States Olympic Committee program known as F.L.A.M.E. (Finding
Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere) in Colorado Springs, Colo. A
business administration major (management), Hiner-Leamon engaged in
leadership seminars, financial literacy workshops, field trips,
sports demonstrations, and motivational presentations conducted by
athletes and USOC staff members.
Trinity, led by head coach Steve Mohr, finished the regular season
with a 10-0 record, the Tigers first undefeated campaign since
2005. The Tigers won their 15th SCAC Championship, and made a 12th
appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. McMurry beat
Trinity 25-16 in the opening round of the playoffs, in a game
played Nov. 19 at the Trinity University Football Stadium.
