Trinity's Ben Robinson Selected to Play in All-Star Game
San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers senior
linebacker Ben Robinson (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) has been selected
to play Dec. 17 in the Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the
Stars) in Puebla, Mexico.
The 5-foot-11, 193-pound Robinson will join a group of NCAA
Division III All-Stars (Team Stars & Stripes) and the CONADEIP
All-Stars from Mexico. Robinson is the ninth Trinity player to
compete in the U.S. vs. Mexico all-star game. Wide receiver Caleb
Urban represented the Tigers in the 2010 tilt.
The game, formerly known as the Aztec Bowl, will be played at the
5,000-seat El Tempo del Dolor (The Temple of Pain). Team Stars
& Stripes triumphed 48-7 in the 2010 contest, played at Toluca,
Mexico. The all-star game is organized and administered by Global
Football.
Robinson, a two-time All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
honoree, received recognition earlier in the week from two
organizations. He was named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week,
and to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
He played a key defensive role in the Tigers 20-14 SCAC victory
last Saturday over Centre, when Trinity clinched a share of
the conference championship, and a bid to the NCAA Division III
playoffs. Robinson led the Tigers with 11 tackles (seven
solo), and three tackles for a loss of six yards. He also
registered a quarterback sack in the game.
Robinson leads Trinity with 72 total tackles (40 solo) this season.
He is also the team leader with 11.5 tackles for a loss, and
Saturday was his second QB sack of the campaign.
Trinity, with head coach Steve Mohr, is undefeated at 9-0 overall,
and 5-0 in SCAC play. The Tigers are ranked 11th by the American
Football Coaches Association Division III Poll, and No. 16 by
d3football.com.
The Tigers wrap up their regular-season campaign Saturday, with a 1
p.m. SCAC game in Sherman, Texas, against the Austin College
Kangaroos.
NCAA bids will be announced Sunday night. The 32-team NCAA
Tournament opens Nov. 19 at sites to be determined.
