Eleven Football Players Earn All-SCAC Honors
San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers had 11 football players earn All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors.
Three Tigers made the All-SCAC Second Team Offense: senior lineman Tory Dawson (6-0, 280) of Austin, Texas (Westlake); senior wide receiver Caleb Urban (6-1, 205) of Victoria, Texas (Memorial); and sophomore running back Patrick Granchelli (5-10, 180) of McAllen, Texas (Memorial).
Urban, named to the All-SCAC Team for the second straight year, led the conference in all-purpose yards, with 1,707 (244 yards rushing, 576 yards receiving, and 845 kickoff return yards, where he led the SCAC). He scored seven receiving touchdowns. Urban is ranked No. 1 in Trinity career kickoff return yards (2,160) and kickoff returns (87).
Granchelli was ranked eighth in SCAC rushing yards (119 attempts, 556 yards, four touchdowns). Dawson was a first-time All-SCAC honoree. He anchored an offensive line which help produce 3,433 yards of total offense.
Trinity had three players elected to the All-SCAC Second Team Defense: senior linebacker Jarrod Burns (5-11, 210) of Bulverde, Texas (Smithson Valley); junior linebacker Ben Robinson (5-11, 188) of Coppell, Texas (Coppell); and sophomore punter Kyle Trella (6-0, 165) of Chandler, Ariz (Chandler).
Burns made the All-SCAC Team for the second consecutive year. He was sixth in conference tackles, with 92 (46 solo).
Robinson is also a two-time All-SCAC recipient. He led the SCAC in tackles for a loss, with 14 (11 solo), for 39 yards. Robinson was No. 10 in interceptions (two interceptions, 86 yards, two touchdowns). He finished eighth in total tackles, with 76 (40 solo).
Trella, the 2009 SCAC Newcomer of the Year, was No. 2 in conference punting (49 punts, 1,937 yards, 39.5 average, long punt of 60 yards).
Named to the All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team were senior running back Kyle Lewis (6-1, 205) of Kingston, Jamaica (Episcopal; Va.); senior defensive lineman Reuben Lucas, Jr. (6-0, 201) of Pearland, Texas (Pearland); junior offensive lineman Robert Parker (6-0, 258) of Houston (Cypress Ridge); senior wide receiver Daniel South (6-3, 203) of Montgomery, Texas (Montgomery); and senior defensive lineman Garrett Van Dyke (6-0, 225) of Houston (Northland Christian).
The Tigers, led by 21st-year Head Coach Steve Mohr, completed the campaign with a 4-6 overall record, and were 2-4 in the SCAC.
