Granchelli Named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week
San Antonio – Trinity University
sophomore Patrick Granchelli’s first start as a running back
was a memorable one, as he scored the winning touchdown in the
Tigers’ 40-34 double-overtime non-conference victory over the
Howard Payne Yellow Jackets last Saturday at Trinity Football
Stadium.
For his efforts, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Granchelli, from McAllen,
Texas (Memorial), was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week.
Granchelli chalked up 133 all-purpose yards, and rushed 17 times
for 88 yards and two touchdowns. His 2-yard game-winner was the
culmination of three plays and 25 yards, where Granchelli carried
the ball each time. Granchelli’s first touchdown of the
night, a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter, tied the score at 24-24.
He also snagged six passes for 45 yards.
Trinity (1-0) won its 19th consecutive season-opener under head
coach Steve Mohr, in his 21st season at the Tigers helm.
The Tigers have an open week, and return to action Sept. 18 by
hosting the Rhodes Lynx in an SCAC game at 6 p.m. Trinity completed
the 2009 campaign with a 4-2 SCAC record (tied for third place) and
a 7-3 overall mark.
