Coaches Promote College Football in San Antonio
San Antonio - Trinity coach Steve Mohr, UIW coach Mike Santiago, and UTSA coach Larry Coker particpated in a panel discussion to promote college football in the city of San Antonio.
The three coaches participated in the San Antonio Sports "Tailgate Talks" for the second straight year, introducing and promoting collegiate football in San Antonio. The event is sponsored by Time Warner Cable.
Trinity has had a football team since 1900, while Incarnate Word and UTSA have both created collegiate programs within the last couple of years. This gives San Antonio a Division I, Division II, and Division III college football team.
Coach Steve Mohr is in his 21st season as Trinity's head football coach, and he is the most successful coach in the school's history. He has amassed 160 wins and 14 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships during his career, and has advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs 11 times since 1994.
In addition to winning 10 SCAC Coach of the Year awards, Coach Mohr has also won Division III National Coach of the Year honors twice in his career. In 2002, he guided the Tigers to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl - the Division III Championship game.
This year’s Tiger team has been ranked 19th nationally by The Sporting News Division III Preseason Poll, and is the only SCAC team listed in the poll.
Trinity opens its season Sept. 4 by hosting Howard Payne University at the Trinity Football Stadium.
