First-year Players Making Big Impact for Trinity Football Team

San Antonio - Two first-year kicking specialists on the Trinity University Tigers football team have received high rankings in the NCAA Division III.

Garrett Biel of Clayton, Calif. (De La Salle, Concord), is ranked No. 1 in field goals, and Kyle Trella of Chandler, Ariz. (Chandler),  is third in punting.

Biel has kicked 8 of 10 field goals in three games (80 percent) and averages 2.67 per game. His longest field goal of the season was 47 yards. In last Saturday's 40-19 SCAC win over Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., Biel booted a school-record four field goals.

Trella has 16 punts (5.3 per game) for 698 yards, an average of 43.6 yards per punt. Four of the punts have landed inside the 20-yard line. In the Rhodes game, Trella punted three times for 136 yards (45.3 average), with two punts inside the 20. Trella's longest punt was for 61 yards.

The Tigers (3-0, 1-0 SCAC), led by head coach Steve Mohr, have been ranked No. 18 in the nation by the first American Football Coaches Association Division III poll of the season.

Trinity travels to Jackson, Miss., for a Saturday game with the defending SCAC champion Millsaps College Majors (2-1, 1-0 SCAC). Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Harper Davis Field.
