Trinity Football Ranked 18th in First AFCA Poll of 2009

San Antonio - The Trinity University Tigers have been ranked No. 18 in the nation by the first American Football Coaches Association Division III poll of the season.

Trinity (3-0, 1-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference), led by head coach Steve Mohr,  opened its conference campaign last Saturday with  a 40-19 victory over the Rhodes College Lynx at Memphis, Tenn.

Sophomore quarterback Patrick Dickinson of San Antonio (Central Catholic) completed 18 of 22 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns in the win. First-year kicker Garrett Biel of Clayton, Calif. (De Lasalles), booted a school-record four field goals.

Tyler Barrett, a sophomore defensive back of Spring, Texas (Oak Ridge), produced three tackles, a fumble recovery and one interception.

The staunch Tiger defense caused six turnovers, the most since Trinity's 35-10 victory over Redlands in 2006. In addition to an interception, the Tigers recovered all five of Rhodes' fumbles.

Trinity travels to Jackson, Miss., for a Saturday game with the defending SCAC champion Millsaps College Majors (2-1, 1-0 SCAC). Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Harper Davis Field.
