Trinity's Biel and Trella Earn Football All-America Honors
San Antonio- Two talented Trinity University Tiger first-year kickers have earned All-America honors from D3football.com.
Kicker Garrett Biel and punter Kyle Trella were elected to the D3football.com All-America Third Team. Both players were selected earlier for the D3football.com All-South Region First Team.
The 5-foot-8, 165-pound Biel, from Clayton, Calif. (De La Salle), led the NCAA Division III in field goals made, connecting on 17 of 19. The longest field goal by Biel was 48 yards. He also booted 31 of 33 extra points. Biel was earlier selected for the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team. His 17 field goals is also a new school record for a single season, and he also broke the record for most field goals in one game this year, making four field goals against Rhodes College.
Trella, from Chandler, Ariz. (Chandler), was previously named All-SCAC First Team, in addition to receiving honors as the SCAC Football Newcomer of the Year. The 6-foot, 165-pound Trella led the nation in punting average, during the regular season (No. 2 after the playoffs), averaging 44.0 yards per punt. Trella broke a 46-year-old school Trinity record with his 48.8 yards per punt average against Sewanee, and now holds four of the top 10 averages in Tigers' single-game history (minimum of five punts). He landed over 33 percent (16) of his punts inside the 20-yard line.
Trinity, led by 20th-year head coach Steve Mohr, completed the season with a 7-3 record. The Tigers went 4-2 in the SCAC, and tied for third place.
