Trinity Football Finishes Regular Season With Road Win Over Austin College

Sherman, Texas - Trinity University junior quarterback Robert Davidson threw four touchdown passes as the Tigers wrapped up their season with a 44-10 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Saturday over the Austin College Kangaroos at Jerry E. Apple Stadium.

The Tigers closed out the campaign with a 7-3 overall record, and a 4-2 SCAC mark. Trinity now leads the series 39-29-6 with the Kangaroos, including a 38-14 win last year in San Antonio.

Davidson, from Fort Worth, Texas (All Saints Episcopal), completed 20-25 passes for 311 yards (no interceptions). Three of his touchdown passes were in the first half, as the Tigers led 27-10. Senior running back Chris Baer of Shiner, Texas (Shiner), caught the first one, a 7-yarder with 33 seconds left in the opening period.

Austin College scored on a 47-yard run early in the second quarter, and tied the score at 7-7. But Baer scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns in the second period, as Trinity led 14-7.  The Kangaroos kicked a 37-yard field goal at 8:45 in the second, closing to 14-10.

That would be Austin College's last score of the game, as the Kangaroos were held scoreless in the second half.

Baer followed with a TD run in the third quarter. He  rushed 23 times for 139 yards, and became the eighth player in Tiger history to score 200 or more points in a career.

Senior wide receiver Riley Curry snagged two of Davidson's TD passes, for 5 and 12 yards, both in Trinity's 20-point second quarter. Curry, from Sugar Land, Texas (Clements), had five receptions for 44 yards.

Caleb Urban, a senior wide receiver from Victoria, Texas (Memorial), caught Davidson's fourth touchdown pass, in the third quarter. Urban snagged seven passes for 143 yards. He also had one kickoff return for 22 yards. Urban previously broke the record for career kickoff return yards and for most returns.

First-year kicker Garrett Biel of Clayton, Calif. (De La Salle), booted his 17th field goal of the season, a 19-yarder to close out the game's scoring. Biel leads the nation in field goals.

Sophomore linebacker Ben Robinson of Coppell, Texas (Coppell), recorded seven tackles (three solo), recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass. Junior defensive lineman Reuben Lucas of Pearland, Texas (Pearland), also had seven tackles (two solo).

Trinity racked up 26 first downs, and limited Austin College to eight. The Tigers had 187 rushing yards and 314 passing, for 501 total yards. Austin College had 194 yards on the ground and only 42 in the air, for 236 total yards. Each team threw an interception, and the Kangaroos lost a fumble.
