Football Ranked 19th in Sporting News Preseason Poll
San Antonio – The Trinity University
Tigers football team has received a national ranking of 19th by
The Sporting News Division III Preseason Poll.
Trinity is the only Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference team
listed in the poll, and one of three from Texas. Mary Hardin-Baylor
is ranked sixth, and Hardin-Simmons is 17th.
The Tigers, led by 21st-year head coach Steve Mohr, return 16 starters (eight offense, six defense, two special teams) from the 2009 season. The team’s reporting date is Aug. 12. Trinity opens its 2010 campaign Sept. 4 by hosting Howard Payne in a non-conference game at E.M. Stevens Stadium.
Last season, the Tigers recorded a 7-3 overall record, and a 4-2 mark (tie for third place) in the SCAC. Trinity won its final two games, beating conference opponents Centre (27-17) and Austin College (44-10).
